Can you only strum down on the gretsch duo jet guitar for rock band on the 360?

I’m still searching, but I also bought the Gretsch and realized it doesn’t strum up. I think it’s meant to only strum down, a friend had mentioned that back then guitarist did only strum down. Maybe Rock Band was trying to stay true to the style and way the guitar was played by not allowing up strumming.
