can you load family tree maker 2008 on top of family tree maker #16?
A quick search in the FAQ’s on the Family Tree Maker website indicates that FTM 2008 will install a completely separate version of FTM 2008 from your existing version. After installing your new version make sure you visit their website to download any available patches they have released to correct for any problems they have found since releasing the retail version you purchased. I would also recommend keeping your old version for awhile until you are confident and comfortable that you are not encountering any problems with it. The new version should be capable of importing the files from the old version but it sounds like they have encountered a few problems that any patches they have released should correct. Once you install the new version and run it you should be prompted to check for updates. Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet when you do this so that it can retrieve the updates.
