Can you hang handsets off the intercom system so when they call a room speaker in talkback and the teacher lifts the handset, the speaker disconnects?
No, we think this limits the communications paths, and many other manufactures agree. Any handset in the classroom should be directly connected to a PBX. The functionality afforded by this is two fold. It provides two independent audio paths into the classroom so pages, emergency announcements etc. will not be affected if the teacher is on the phone. Also, most switches are digital today and provide 100% non blocking communications within the switch, which means if you have 100 classrooms, 50 can talk to 50 at the same time. Most switches today also provide E911 capabilities directly from each extension.
