The PCTs are developing a wide range of specialist community services, in particular within Community Health Centres and other community facilities. Some of these are planned as replacements for existing hospital based services, which do not need to be provided on an acute hospital site. In some instances, the service being replaced will be bed-based, while its replacement will not need beds.
