Can you go from National Guard/Reserve to an active duty contract?

Depending on what your specialty is you shouldn’t have any problem getting on active duty. Be persistent and work with a good recruiter. THere are officer shortages throughout the Army in most fields. Another option you have after you get commissioned in the Army Reserve is the Active Guard Reserve (AGR) program. You probably heard of it. It’s active duty pay and benefits for you to work full time at an Army Reserve Unit. Again, this depends on your specialty. Right now they’re not hiring 42A series because they’re over-strength but many others are short (ie.. transportation, quartermaster, engineers) and I know 3 officers personally who were accepted into the program as 2LT and put into CPT positions. Your first tour will be 3 years and you can get off the program and pursue active duty after wards or stay on INDEF but everyone’s first tour in the AGR program is 3 years.
