Can you give us a tease of what the future holds for Jughead?
Oh yeah, I don’t have to tell you how important Jughead is to the whole Archie universe. His life takes very interesting turns depending whether Archie marries Betty or Archie marries Veronica. He is going to attempt to succeed Pop Tate and he sees a real future for himself there, but it’s very challenging and very, very nerve-wracking due to the economy and things that are taking place in Riverdale all around him. How Jughead reacts to women as opposed to high school girls is going to be an interesting development in his story arc, because one thing that I’ve learned from my own high school reunion over the years is that most people evolve. Just because Veronica may have been a rich bitch in high school, [it] doesn’t mean that five years [later] that she is the same person – that she hasn’t matured in some sense or evolved in some sense. So I wanted to be true to the characters, but I wanted to show that evolution.
