You don’t have to drive if you’re willing to use the CTA. Public transportation from Naperville will require taking a bus from the train station; the walk is about a mile and a half, and no, you probably wouldn’t want to walk (though I’d say that the odds of anything happening to you if you did walk there are pretty low east of the UC these days). The better idea is to walk from Union Station north to Madison Street (a 2 block walk from the main entrance) and catch the Madison st. bus for the easiest trip.
