Not so much Beaconsfield, but in Dorval and Pointe-Claire you can get some pretty nice neighbourhoods. I live in Pointe-Claire and it’s only a 20-minute drive to downtown when the traffic’s light. The train takes 25 mins to downtown, so it’s great for commuting, since the highway slows to a crawl. We also have decent bus service with the express route “211”. In NDG you’re certainly closer to downtown. I woouldn’t live in CDN…kind of a rough neighbourhood, and you’ve got to be careful which part of NDG you’re in. The part near Westmount and Montreal-West is okay, but stay far away from Walkley street.
