Can you get hypnotherapy for stopping smoking on the nhs?
It depends on your GP to be honest, both on his/her funding policy and their personal attitude to complementary therapies (although most people accept hypnotherapy as mainstream now). Two options: 1) ask – the worst he/she can say is no, or 2) call the surgery and ask just generally what the practice’s policy is on using complementary therapies. Unfortunately, some docs are still in the stone age on this and are much happier to dish out pills than either attempt to get to the bottom of a problem, eg. why you smoke, and/or attempt to find the most effective treatment for each patient, which can vary considerably. In practice, as you’ve found, not all things work for all people. My advice would be to ask, then if no, ask why (trying read a few articles which back up hypnotherapy as an effective treatment for smoking to quote at him/her!), then list the things you’ve tried and not succeeded with, and ask again (keep pestering!!).
