This is complex. As far as I know, youtube temporarily stores viewing info in the History section. This section gets cleared out every once in awhile. So far, the ‘authorities’ have only been interested in those who post the video, not those who view or download them from youtube. The number of views of a video can be in the tens of thousands. That’s allot of people to sue. Nonetheless, youtube is trying to stop people from downloading, but it’s not gonna work. So I wouldn’t worry about it. The best way to stay safe is to only download content that is not copyrighted by a major firm or player. In other words, don’t download Beatles concerts or episodes of Lost.
