Can you explain me the difference between a hard disk and RAM and how they are related?

Computers 101 (hard drive vs RAM) good question! A hard drive is used to store your documents (docs, pics, music, vidoes, etc). AND your operating system. This is your main storage. If your computer no longer works, you still have a hard drive with stored documents….. and THAT is very important. If your hard drive fails, it is possible for an expert to retrieve your documents (at a cost, a big cost) but can be done. That is why we use backups (cds, usb flash drives, servers connected to computers). I use a second drive (slave) inside my computer to store documents for this reason. RAM is the memory that allows your operating system to open when your computer is turned on. Think of RAM as the REASON your operating system loads and initualizes hardware on boot. Once up, RAM provides the memory needed to process computer work until it is powered down and laid to rest. RAM works hand in hand with a processor (brains) and hard drive (storage).
