The cognitive theory of aggression basically states that aggression is learned, though it acknowledges the existence of some biological factors. It’s mostly learned through observing the acts of others. This is the theory that advocates for TV censorship use to bolster their view that violent television causes violence in children, because there’s some research to suggest that kids do what they see. In its purest form, though, it refers to children observing the behavior that their direct family or friends engage in.
