Can you explain how Roy Hodgson came to be appointed as Liverpool Football Clubs new manager?
The Board appointed Christian Purslow, the Managing Director, and Kenny Dalglish to oversee the process and do the interviews. We had a long list of potential candidates and a number of telephone interviews were done to begin with to narrow the list down. Christian and Kenny agreed a shortlist of five and then face-to-face interviews took place with those candidates. They recommended two in the end, which last weekend was really for myself and Christian to have a run through and we chose Roy as a result of that. What sort of qualities were the club looking for in a new manager? It was a whole range of things, but it was looking for experience, experience in a multicultural and multinational background and someone who had seen it all before, in a sense. We weren’t looking so much for somebody who was just emerging, we wanted somebody who could, first and foremost, command the respect of the players, who had a good track record and could take us forward from where we are now.
