Can you ever become a Police Officer if you were charged with Assault & Battery Domestic Violence?

Under the Lautenburg Agreement a person who has been convicted of a Domestic Violence charge cannot obtain, own, possess, or carry a firearm for any reason. It will automatically disqualify you if you were convicted. Now you said you were charged, not convicted. Remember, pleading guilty, taking a deal, or pleading no contest are all considered convictions. It will come up in your background check and be addressed in your interview. Depending on totality of the case, the dispositon, the police report, the story of you and the complainant, etc will be visited. Most departments do not want an officer who has a background that can start a media circus or have that liability in case there is a complaint issued against the officer (especially one involving excessive force) because trust me the public complains all the time about everything and arrests are PUBLIC record. I have to say the chances are slim to none, but try anyway.
