Can you escape from the earth’s gravity by getting above the atmosphere? By going to the moon?
You never really escape it. But you can get so far away that it is insignificant. Or you can put yourself in a freely falling frame of reference like a vomit comet or an orbiting satellite. Gravity is effectively eliminated if you and your reference frame are falling together, which is why astronauts live and work in zero g.
