A highly employable person is an independent, creative, resourceful problem solver. Such a person knows how to go about finding information and solutions effectively and efficiently, collaborating with others when necessary, and sharing the results for the good of the enterprise. People who consistently rely on others for help, particularly when other resources (such as books, research journals, or the Internet) are readily available to them, or who are unable or unwilling to improve their own skills, will not only reduce their own employability but also drain their coworkers’ productivity. So the best way to improve the employability of a workforce is to motivate them to improve their skills so they can be self-reliant and productive. This is typically accomplished by rewarding them for their efforts and successes, whether financially, socially, or otherwise, and discouraging them from taking shortcuts that may provide short-term success but long-term stagnation.
