Can you eat robins or morning doves?
Mourning doves are considered game birds and must be hunted with a shotgun under the Migratory Birds treaty of 1918 (consult your local DNR for exact information on season dates and legal methods of take).(1) Robins are considered songbirds in every state I know of. Neither of them can legally be shot with a BB gun. Additionally BB guns typically don’t deliver enough energy since they typically only provide 1.4-2.25 ft-lbs of muzzle energy (5.1 grain BBs 350-450 fps) and birds take 2-3 ft-lbs of impact energy to kill humanely.(2) If you want to use a pellet gun which delivers sufficient energy to hunt birds (like say the Crosman 2100 or Daisy 880), then you need to talk to your local DNR about what species of birds are considered nuisance birds (usually the list includes some species of pigeon, starlings, but your local DNR can tell you exactly what birds it includes).
