Can you drink something right after taking cough medicine, or will it negate the effect of the medicine?
Actually, where drugs like dextromethorphan (anything wit a DM suffix) is concerned, it’s irrelevant. DM doesn’t work by coating your throat, but works through other physiological mechanisms. Drugs like this are antitussives, requiring a long trip through the body (even the liver!) in order to control your cough. Some work by squelching the physical act of coughing, while others quell the production of the mucous that makes you cough. Regardless, these things all work better WITH fluids, rather than without! Take this away, the “bad stuff” stays in your body. I don’t EVER use cough suppressants! The ONLY drug that I’ll use when I have a cough is guaifenesin. This is still found in many prescription and OTC cough medicines, but remove the cough, remove the mechanism that expels what’s been loosened. As far as hebal remedies are concerned,
