I know this answer is late for you, but may help others. Fire listed doors and frames may be modified, but such modifications must follow the strictures of NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives. The Standard lists what shall be performed in the field and any item not specifically enumerated in the Standard is not allowed. Here are some things you can do to a fire listed door in the field. You can drill up to a one inch hole in the surface of the door for surface applied hardware (such as a listed peephole, or lock cylinder). You can attach signs, but such signage cannot be applied with screws or nails. You can drill a raceway through the door for wires to power an electrified lock, but such modification must be done under listing agency supervision, such as the Perfect Raceway Program, managed by Intertek Testing Services, NA, where they train and provide Certification for Raceway installers. http://www.whmark.com. Any other modifications not specifically allow
