Can you die from touching the golden poison-dart frog?
If it’s captive bred and has been for a generation or two, then it’s more than likely completely harmless. Out of the wild, they are typically robbed of the foods which provide the ingredients for their batrachotoxin. However, one caught in the wild can retain its toxicity for years and, yes, touching one of those could easily kill a human. 1 gram of the toxin could kill 15,000 people and it permeates human skin very quickly. The toxin remains stable after leaving the frog – making surfaces potentially lethal. As the toxin causes permanent muscle contractions in humans, you’re likely to die of heart-failure if anything.
