Can you cure eyesight problems wearing contact lenses at night?
The procedure is called Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) if you google this term you’ll see a bunch of websites about how it works optometrists which perform this procedure. This procedure has been around for a long time and it has both pros and cons which I’ll explain. The way it works is that you wear a hard contact lens to sleep and while you sleep the lens reshapes your cornea temporarily when you wake up in the morning you remove the lenses and your myopia is corrected. Now for the Cons: 1. Initially wearing the lens it feels uncomfortable 2. The fitting procedure is tedious and it does require several visits to ensure the lenses are fitting and working correctly 3. The lenses are more expensive then soft disposable contact lenses and you are usually required to pay a fitting fee 4. You must wear the lenses regularly (every night or second night) to maintain clear vision. 5. Orthokeratology does not work for all prescriptions, large amounts of astigmatism and myopia > then 6.00 D does no
