Can you copy an exe file to a cd without it changing to a read only file?”

In the nature of how files are written on CD’s, they have to be read only. You can copy the exe file from the CD on to another computer and change it and if the CD is a RW type of CD then you can rewrite the whole CD over again. If it is not an RW then you use a new blank CD. CD’s are not like jump drives or MP3 players that you can use a portion of the memory for file transfer, in that the jump drives and MP3 players have softwear that manages where the files are and can move them around just like your computers hard drive. The CD’s are more like an etch-a-sketch where you can write on it untill it is full but to make changes to what you have done, you have to erase the whole image and start over again. This is because the laser in a CD player/writer uses an image and other solid state (non-moving) memory types work off of micro switches that can be re-flipped on or off as the softwear that manages the information wants.
