Can you Compare and contrast the reforms and policies of Tsars Alexander II and Alexander III?
both of them are conservative and trying to save the Tsardom, despite Alexander II being known as the ‘tsar liberator’ Alexander II used methods such as the emancipation of the serfs, formation of zemstvo, relaxing censorship and legal reform to try and pacify the people and remove any impetus for revolution, he ultimately failed as the policies did not go far enough and led to increased revolutionary activity and various assassinations and attempts, including his own. Alexander III was conservative in a traditional sense oppressing the people with censorship, he did bring in a few liberal advisors towards the end but his policies were very repressive.
