Can you become / Train to be a paramedic in the UK without going to University?
Yes you can, you need to apply to the different ambulance regions eg south wales ambulance/London ambulance (details can be found on web search) Begin as a trainee EMT (emergency medical technician) which consists of about 3 months in their college and then a year on the road, with an assessment at the end. You are then a qualified EMT, you then need to get at least 12 months experience as an EMT before you can apply to become a trainee paramedic. Again that only takes a year roughly. Generally, you need to be over 21 for insurance purposes, pass a fitness test and a drug and alcohol screen. Good point about it is that you get paid while training.
