Can you be irish without an irish first and second name.?
No. If both your mother and father are 100% Irish and they give you a name they both like that isn’t Irish – Elvis Presley or Thomas Jefferson or Nelson Mandela – your nationality changes, and in the case of Nelson, your skin would darken. I’m kidding, of course. There are lots of Irish without Irish names. I tried “John Smith”, which is the commonest name I could think of. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/f… is the free 1880 – 1881 censuses, courtesy of the Mormons. Look at the 1880 US Census for John Smith born in Ireland. It maxes out at 200, but you could click “Show next 200” many times before it stopped. Then try “Paul” or “George” or “Samuel” which are all names that don’t sound Irish.
