Can wood bats make a big difference?

As most of you know, this past spring Gunnar Sandberg, a junior pitcher from Marin Catholic High School was hit in the head with a line drive and suffered a major head injury. After his injury, Sandberg’s teammates and those from the Marin Catholic Athletic League chose to use wood bats for the remainder of the season in support of Sandberg. At the time of his injury, Assemblyman Jared Huffman, D-San Rafael immediately proposed a two-year ban on non-wooden bats for high school teams in California. I don’t know if this was a rash decision Huffman made, but I know that for years there has been talk about replacing metal bats with wood bats at the high school and collegiate level. I think anyway you can protect a player, especially a kid under 18, is a good thing, but I think the one fact that most people forget is that baseball, like most sports, even though it may not seem like it, can be dangerous. Each time a player takes the field or court to play a designated sport they take a risk
