Can white blood cell count be high if one is taking antibiotics for infection.?

I had a high white blood cell count when I came off of my first round of a drug called Flagyl. Now I am back on it and it is in normal range. Is this a sign that the infection is clearing or does it simply mean that my body isnt fighting it,and only the meds are.
