Can Western trained horses be ridden English (without any additional training)?

Sure! You just need to accommodate for their training. My mare was trained for 8 years in western pleasure and I ride her english to get all around awards. She needs longer than normal spurs or spurs that are placed lower on my boot. I have to sit back more at the canter. You will have to practice with your horse to let him know that it is alright to go faster at the canter, that it’s ok to stride out at the trot, and that contact with his mouth is not equal to a butt whooping. If your horse was trained well originally then it will only take practice to get the english down. Good luck!
