Can western-style democracy benefit Africa?
Can the African world rely on western-style democracy to be the voice of the people for true democratic reforms, free and fair elections? While observing the elections in Ghana, a stable country, I noticed that there were few problems, compared to the ones in America in the recent presidential elections. I also observed the enormous amounts of resources that were spent on campaigning; posters, buses, radio and TV advertisements, travel, rallies, billboards, T-shirts, caps, buttons, trucks, giving out free food, etc. I thought about how many hospitals could have been built; how many businesses could have been started, how many low-cost houses could have been built; how many hospital bills could have been paid? And when you look at an array of so many candidates running for one office and the resources that are spent to make that happen, and it will not diminish; it will only increase as time goes on. Is this the way for Africa? I do not want anyone to think that we need a dictatorship o
