Can we verify Medi-Cal eligibility directly with the State via 270/271’s?

A provider can perform their own 270 transactions directly to the State. EDI providers really do not have to check eligibility, if they indicate MediCal; the claim is going to the State. The requirement to check eligibility is to determine if the client is MediCal, but there is no edit at the State to recognize if the provider in fact performed the eligibility check.
