Can we use astm a234 ss plates for fabrication of pressure vessel?

There are a couple issues here. First you ask about ASTM A234 SS, when you say SS in a material description it usually means stainless steel, ASTM A234 is not stainless steel, it is carbon steel. The second issue is about your use of the word “plates”. ASTM A234 is not about plate material to be used for the fabrication of pressure vessels. A234 is about pipe fittings for moderate to high temp applications. The ASTM spec clearly identifies this material as a fitting material. The ASME specs only list it under fittings. Using this material also carries some very specific heat-treating requirements that would be very difficult, if not impossible for a large fabrication. The ASTM specification provides no options for this material to be used for anything other than fittings. It you have a high temp need there is probably another option. ASME specification does provide for a variety of plate materials, I am sure we could find one.
