Can we reverse the tide of environmental destruction in seven years?
The global community thinks it can, and aims to achieve a significant reduction in the loss of biodiversity – the living world – by 2010. On World Biodiversity Day the Secretary General of the UN calls for everyone to make a pledge to generate momentum towards its preservation. The 2010 Global Biodiversity Challenge is perhaps the most important declaration ever to be made in support of environmental protection for sustainable development. Achieving this target will improve the living standards of millions of people and has the potential to raise many from abject poverty.
