Can we realistically blend best practices in ECSE with developmentally appropriate practices?
Although research supporting this approach is limited (Carta et al., 1991), many professionals have suggested that the developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) guidelines can be applied to all children. Further, many professionals contend that the DAP guidelines should provide the foundation for programs serving young children with disabilities. On an as-needed basis, strategies and adaptations from ECSE can then be applied for individual children with disabilities.
