Can we pump water from flooded streets into retention ponds?

0

It has been suggested that flood waters should be pumped into retention ponds from low lying streets such as Illini Drive, Silverleaf Boulevard, and others. Unfortunately, when the original Carol Stream subdivision was built, current detention requirements were not in effect and therefore no ponds were constructed. Pumping additional flood water into Armstrong Park isnt feasible because the park already remains full for a long period of time. The additional water would drain downstreamback into the flooded area. Pumping water downstream would also be of questionable value because the stream is already full, thats why the streets wont drain. Even if additional water could be pumped into community streams, it may very well cause flooding of downstream properties.
