Can we “plug and play” different ERP vendor products?
All ERP vendors are in the process of opening up their software through standard interfaces. Many implementations of ERP in India have used third party HR (mostly payroll) module along with standard ERP packages. This has been done due to the unusual pay structure prevalent in India. In these cases, data from an external pay roll system supplies data to the ERP package. As such these can be termed at best as ” Bolt – on” packages. This approach does not imply “plug and play” which calls for tighter integration. It will be several years before true plug and play is possible, for example HR from People Soft or Ramco, financials from Oracle, manufacturing from BaaN, and logistics from SAP to be delivered as an “ERP of choice” for a particular organization.
