A III explored many alternatives before arriving at de-annexation from the City of Clearwater and incorporation of the City of Clearwater Beach. The decision was the result of an accumulation of philosophical differences between the three islands and the City of Clearwater. These differences go back as far as 1977 when the City of Clearwater imposed its view of how the barrier islands should be governed. Hundreds of residents have participated at City Council meetings, thousands of petitions have been filed, emails have been sent that have shut down the Citys computer system and more. Yet, the voice of the people has not been heard. III considered supporting city council candidates from the islands but presently three of the council members reside on the islands and still the residents concerns have not been listened to and addressed.
