As McCain aids keep leaking rather astounding stories about Sarah Palin it is beginning to look like the whole campaign was a disaster. I think that as an outside observer I can say that the McCain campaign seemed disjointed at best. For example, they didn’t use the time after McCain had clinched the GOP nomination while the Dems were still at war to any advantage at all. I also think that his lie to David Letterman hurt him far more than many people realize. In case you missed it McCain was scheduled to appear on Letterman very shortly after his statement of 9/15 but at the last minute he called Letterman and cancelled. He told Letterman that he couldn’t make it because he was rushing back to Washington to work on the financial crisis but what he really did was go and do an interview with CBS News. He didn’t actually make it back to DC until the next day. Of course Letterman is on CBS and so he found out about McCain’s interview while it was in progress so McCain was caught in a huge
