Can Watercolor Pencils Be Used on Top of Paint? Monday September 25, 2006 I’ve had an email from Alison saying: “Am I able to do a watercolor wash and then use watercolor pencils on top? The reason I’m asking is because I’ve some pictures I think would look much nicer done with the pencils.” The good news for Alison is that yes, you can use watercolor pencils on top of watercolor paint, providing the paint is totally dry.
