Answer Hi Fran; You must remove the carpet first and then be certain the underlayment on which you will install the vinyl floor is proper for that vinyl floor. Before you do the installation, we suggest that you obtain the vinyl floor manufacturer’s installation specifications to insure a proper installation and not void any warranties. Most vinyl floor manufacturers have a website where you can download or print out the installation specifications. Also, obtain the manufacturer’s maintenance manual to insure you will use proper cleaning techniques.
