Many people with nail fungus say that applying Vick’s VapoRub seems to help. There may be something to it. Vick’s VapoRub contains a mixture of menthol, eucalyptus oil, camphor, and thymol. These ingredients are active against several fungal organisms that cause nail fungus. This degree of infection depends on how deep within the nail bed the fungus has penetrated. If the fungus is deep within the nail bed it is extremely hard to cure. However, for minor infections Vicks VapoRub can be a viable option. There is another option that can be compounded at Tiger Town Pharmacy or Homer Drug Company that puts the medication terbinafine (patented as Lamisil) into a solvent that is applied to the nail and allows the drug to penetrate the nail bed (this option does require a prescription from your doctor).
