Can Venus and Serena Williams stay on a quarterfinal collision course?
A repeat Wimbledon final in which Venus beat Serena is not in the offing because the American sisters are slated to meet in the quarterfinals. Both are overdue in New York. Neither has been to a final here since 2002. As always, they are capable but unpredictable. Serena, 26, has played two tournaments since Wimbledon. Venus, 28, has played one. Neither won titles. But both have looked commanding here. Before Williams XVII (they are 8-8 all time), No. 7 seed Venus could face young, hungry Agnieszka Radwanska, 19, in the fourth round. The ninth-seed from Poland upset defending champion Maria Sharapova on her way to the fourth round here last year. Serena has a trio of veterans in her path, including third-round opponent Ai Sugiyama, a Japanese player who is competing in her record 58th consecutive major.
