Can varicose veins cause serious problems if untreated?
For most individuals, varicose veins are of a cosmetic nuisance. However, slow progression occurs in most patients. Initially minor symptoms such as leg heaviness or discomfort can occasionally progress to more serious conditions. Varicose vein size is not a strong predictor of the likelihood of developing a significant complication.
