I don’t know of any psychosocial treatments that are effective for this on their own. Medication is the first line of treatment, and then close monitoring by the prescribing psychiatrist may include some talk therapy, but that would probably be to help the person cope with the secondary issues the person experiences from this medical condition, like housing, employment, relationship issues, etc. If there is a particular psychosocial treatment for schizophrenia, I haven’t heard of it.

I had a thing called ‘psychosocial intervention’ (I think) after my last episode. Basically with a support worker you go back and look at your behaviour which led up to your last psychotic episode. Then you work out a timeline of events from that, so how your behaviour and feelings changed in the weeks and days leading up to the onset of psychosis. With this information you then put together a relapse provention plan. This includes your warning signs you identified that you are getting ill, plus people you can contact at each stage such as your GP or CPN. Copies of this plan are then sent to everyone you want involved in your care. In theory then you should be able to get help before you have a full blown psychotic episode. It has been quite useful so far. I haven’t had a relapse since I had it anyway.

What is your question?
