So the heavier an object is or the fast it is going the more momentum it has. Think of a truck vs. a car going at the same speeds. Which one would be harder to stop? The truck of course because it has more mass which means more momentum. The conservation of momentum is a bit confusing, but i usually think of conservation of momentum as the conservation of energy theorem. No energy is ever lost it just changes form. So say a truck smacks into a still car. The car goes flying with the truck until they stop. The truck gave the car momentum by slamming into it.
