Hi, Polio, while not eradicated entirely, is certainly not the threat it once was. This is thanks to Jonas Salk’s vaccine, arguably one of the biggest medical success stories of the 20th century. So, can you still “get polio” these days? Technically, the answer is yes. According to the Center for Disease Control, “no wild polio has been reported in the United States for over 20 years.” However, the disease is still “common in some parts of the world” where vaccines are scarce. The CDC goes on to explain that “it would only take one case of polio from another country to bring the disease back if we were not protected by vaccine.” If not immunized, the human body may contract the virus.
