Can two male zebra finches mate?
Yes, indeed two male finches will mate. Of course, you won’t get any eggs or babies (lol). Birds are highly sexual animals, and they don’t particularly care about what gender they pair with. Finches, parrots, softbills… all have anecdotes of same-gender pairs, though it’s more common in species where males and females look similar, or where the opposite gender is not present. Do be wary of having a male-heavy finch aviary- male finches can be aggressive during the breeding season, and lower-ranked males may be bullied pretty bad (to the point they do not get enough to eat, sleep, etc). Zebras aren’t as bad as some finches, but it would be a good idea to keep an eye on them during breeding season. Generally it’s a better idea to have a few extra females, as long as you have enough nesting spots and good homes lined up for the babies.
