Can trucks with triple trailers be on the road in bad weather?
The simple presence of wind, fog, or adverse weather does not disallow the movement of triple trailer combinations. Fog is a factor when visibility is reduced beneath 500 feet. Wind or weather only becomes a limiting factor when road surfaces become hazardous. That determination must be made by the driver and the driver will be held accountable for the determination he/she makes. Specific weather-related regulations governing triple trailer operations are contained in Oregon Administrative Rule 734-074-0045. • Movement of triple trailer combinations is prohibited when road surfaces are hazardous or when wind or other conditions may cause the unit or any part thereof to swerve, to whip, to sway or fail to follow substantially in the path of the towing vehicle. • Road surfaces are considered hazardous for triple trailers when the surface is other than bare or wet pavement. Examples of “other than bare or wet pavement” include surfaces that have frost, ice, sleet or snow on the roadway. •
