Can Travertine floor tiles be polished up to give them a shine?

Hi – Travertine tiles are porous and should be sealed with a proper sealer to prevent them getting stained/dirty and to make them easier to clean. They could require up to 5 coats to seal them properly. You can get a sealer that will give them a shiny finish. The sealer is very potent stuff to apply and plenty of ventilation is required. Also wear rubber gloves. Apply the sealer, with a brush or roller, covering about 2 square metres at a time. Leave it a few minutes and then wipe off the excess with a lint free rag. Treat the whole floor like this. Leave overnight to dry. Repeat this process until sufficent sealer has been applied to properly seal the tiles (and grout). You will know when sufficient coats have been applied by dripping a few drops of water onto the dry tiles. When you blow the drops of water they should ‘roll’ across the surface of the tile. You can get the sealer from tile shops and is manufactured by PG.
