Can tight binary systems support life?
To support life a binary system, must have the possibility of stable planetary orbits in the habitable zone. So the situation you describe will work. 0.08 AU equals 12 million kms. Two stars of 1 M_Sun, would be 2 as luminous as the Sun, and the habitable zone would be around 1.4 AU. It’s the binary systems with large separations that are unstable for planets. Alpha Centauri probably is a border case. Alpha Centauri B has the average distance of Uranus.
