Can there still be a triple crown winner in sports this year?
When Rachel Alexander won the Preakness yesterday, the hopes for a triple crown this year were ended. The little filly’s amazing win bested all the big boys of the thoroughbred racing world, and put an end to the hope that a triple crown will happen in 2009. We’ll have to see what happens next year! Conditions of the triple crown: The Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing (although sometimes shortened to Triple Crown, the full name is used to avoid possible confusion with other sports) consists of three races for three-year-old Thoroughbred horses. Winning all three of these Thoroughbred horse races is considered the greatest accomplishment of a Thoroughbred racehorse. In recent years, the Triple Crown has become a very rare achievement, with most horses specializing on a limited range of distances. Sources: http://en.wikipedia.
